Free Camping Australia

  • goldenbeach-gippslandGolden Beach ETA 3 hrs (about an hour from Sale)
    Golden Beach provides RV travellers with 48hr stop over and up to 72 hrs stay time by appointment all right in the centre of town adjacent to all facilities.  Showers and shops within 100m of your site while all that’s required is a gentle stroll across the road to get to the beach. 

  • kurthkilnKurth Kiln Regional Park ETA 1.5 hrs
    One of the closest bush camping opportunities to Melbourne. Non-flush toilet. Free.
    Scout Loop Track – 30 sites in bush. Magazine Track – 6 sites. Heritage Fence Camping Area – 4 sites in treed area. Campers must carry all equipment in from the adjacent car park. Popular for picnicking, camping, walking and horse riding.

    Just out of Mansfield  … Beautiful right beside the river. Free. Non-flush toilets. Take all rubbish with you.

    Free camping, drop dunnies. Toorongo Falls.

  • warburtonsbridgeWarburtons Bridge ETA 2 hrs.
    Between Daylesford and Guildford. 
    Bush camping (no facilities) on the banks of the Loddon River. 20 sites, limited shady areas.

  • Mt Franklin ETA 1.5 hrs
    Located inside a volcano crater. The pine tree covered crater rim provides good wind protection. Longdrop toilets. No fires allowed. Free camping.

    Free camping by lake, flushing toiletss

  • walhallaWalhalla – ETA 3 Hrs. 
    Good free camping with BBQ area, flush toilets, and lots of things to see and do (Gippsland) Free gas BBQ in shelter as well as wood fire pits. 

  • lerderdergLerderderg State Park ETA 1.5 Hrs
    Bush walking. Lerderderg State Park is a no-fuss camper’s dream, located only 65 kilometres west of Melbourne. Its 20,546 hectares of bush spans some 20 kilometres between Bacchus Marsh and Blackwood, and is divided diagonally by the Lerderderg River.

  • There is a place out of castlemaine ETA 1.5 hrs
    it has springs toilets bbq and nice walks and its free. I cant remember the name of the springs.  
    (Does anyone know this place? maybe he is talking about lerderderg too)

  • campspotLake Burrumbeet ETA 1.5 hrs (see this post for video review). $10/night unpowered. Dead carp everywhere. Nice showers/toilets. People live here in their cabins. 10mins from Ballarat, VIC.

  • Murray River. ETA 3 hrs.
    Victorian (south side) of Murray River across from Tocumwal (NSW). Free.
    (couldn’t find campground online that he was talking about)

Caravan/Camping Solo Travellers

  • aysons-reserveAysons Reserve ETA 2.5 hrs
    Near Elmore. Free, drop toilets. Not too far from Bendigo/Axedale. The river is easily accessible from the campsite. 30+ sites. Free for up to 28 days per each 12 months.  Wood BBQ’s are available. Bring firewood and check fire restrictions.

  • Greens Lake Reserve ETA 2.5 Hrs

    greenslakeFree camping on the edge of a semi-natural lake between Echuca and Shepparton, VIC. 100 sites. Flushing toilets, playground, BBQ’s. Popular with grey nomads & locals on long weekends. Large camping area. Popular for water skiing & fishing. 

  • obriensBlackwood… O’Brien’s Crossing.. Near Castlemaine ETA 1 hr
    Unfortunately, camping is no longer permitted at O’Briens Crossing.

  • Meredith Park, Flushing Toilets, Lake. (12k from Colac) (see above)

  • brisbane-ranges-nationalBrisbane Ranges National Park. ETA 1 hr
    Mountains, bushwalking, towards Geelong. Expensive though $27/night with no water supply. Camping must be booked in advance
